Breaking the ICE

Sometimes when you meet new people and you don't know what to say or do, you just hope that someone will just start a conversation or introduce you to each other. Well, if that does not happen then maybe you just leave it at that or some what until something comes up next..

Stop expecting someone to do something. Here's what you can do! These are some links to some ice-breaking activities...

Themed lessons

This is a link which I find very useful and interesting. Although it's not exactly meant for Malaysia as it's under the 4 season categories, I find some of the links there to the respective themes very useful. It really depends on you to modify the lesson to suit your students isn't it? =)

So here's the link!

Guides to Writing Reflection after a Lesson =)

This is a very useful link to a blog post by a fellow TESL-ian blogger who has just graduated last year =).

I find her blog very informative and the tips are very useful especially for those who are new and are currently undergoing the practicum phase (just like me).. Have a look at her blog called Life as a Teacher.

Action Words for Writing Learning Objectives in Lesson Plans

Hey, I know some may have problems looking for action words when writing your lesson's objectives.. Well, especially true when you are stressed and when you can't think properly.. Or perhaps just because you don't know much action words that is suitable for writing lesson's objectives (just like me =P).. So here's some links to save us from cracking our head and halting us from writing our lesson plans...

Interesting memos for pupils

Other than buying nice and cute pre-printed memo papers in writing for your pupils, you can do this instead! =)

Erm, the writings on the little t-shirts aren't really notes to the pupils =S but it could be an idea =)))

"The Worn Path" - a post-reading book

"The Worn Path" is a short story written by Eudora Welty. It is a short story about an elderly African-American woman named Phoenix Jackson who is walking through the woods into town.
-sourced from Wikipedia-

This is another work produced by Agnes Lee apart from this  =)

Here's some pictures of the book she produced... (Captions by me..)

The cover page

The doll figure of Phoenix!

Empty slot for the figure =)
Isn't this a great idea for younger pupils???

=D

another example of what we could do with the story...

another page in the book

Isn't this a great post-reading book? or an activity after reading a book! We can use this to learn about the characteristics and physical appearancesof the characters! =D

"Much Ado About Nothing" - Pop Up Book by Agnes Lee

Hi guys, this is a very special post with consent from the owner of the pictures - AGNES LEE. She's our junior in IPG Batu Lintang. A very talented artist I should say.. =D

This is a feature on her creative work which we can all use as example for making our own pop-up book. It's a very detailed and great idea! Of course, I'm not asking you to make one of this and use it as your teaching aid for a day or a lesson only (unless you don't mind all the hard work put into it of course!!) =D Well, you can use this as a project that you can do with your pupils for a longer period of time or in a course of a week (or more XD). Each group of pupils may do a page of the pop up book and then compiled it into a book later on! It's an idea and no doubt it's a great one!!!

Now then, let's have a look at her amazing pop up book! [I think this was created for an assignment =))))]

 AMAZED YET?????? XD

Great job Agnes!!!!! Thanks for giving me the permission to share this with everyone =)

Although it is undeniable that making a picture book requires an awfully lot work and patience, the fact that she did it shows us that it's do-able! Don't fret! Try it if you think you can do this! It need not to be as amazing as this but the idea is do-able!

Here are some useful links to help you get started =))) Enjoy!!

Second Feature: Christina Wong's Way of Managing Her Pupils

Writing letters is awesome. It is an on-going process for the pupils to write at least a letter per week. It provides benefits for both the teacher and the pupils. The pupils write the letters and the teacher responds to the pupils' letters. As time goes by, it builds rapport with pupils because they update their feelings and situations with the teacher. When the letter shows a green light, it means the pupils have written the letter. When it shows the red light, it means the teacher has replied to the letter. ^_^ I enjoy this activity very much.

Credits to Christina Wong King Lan for allowing me to post this up. =)

Great job Christina!!! =D

Classroom RULES

Some ideas as to what classroom rules that a teacher should establish with the pupils. Preferably at the beginning of the year so pupils will know what to expect during your lessons.

OUR CLASSROOM RULES
1. When I speak, you must listen!
2. Put up your hands if you have
something to say!
3. 1 person speaks at 1 time!
4. Do not walk or wander around the
classroom!

Personal Behaviour Record Chart

Behaviour Management Scheme
Quoted from Soleh Ismail << credits to
"I call these 'Behaviour Management Scheme' (-.-)!. I set up 'Our Classroom Rules' and 'Well-behaved Chart' since the beginning of our meetings and mark them according to their respective rows (both the OCR and WB chart are pasted int he classroom). First (each lesson), I give htem 5 marks (jotted down on WB Chart). Those marks will be deducted if they go against one of the rules (OCR). By the end of every month, total all the marks and reward them. (^__^)
Let's try. It's fun to see pupils' reaction when your hand is about to erase their marks XD
I hope it helps, iA"

p/s: It works very well in the advance classroom. For another classroom, it works most of the time, but more fun things should be thought of so that they are always on-task (=.=)!
